Partners 4 Change

Dear Parents/Guardians,

During this school year, an Occupational Therapist (OT) from KidsAbility Centre for Child Development will once again be working with teachers and students in all schools across the region, including our school.

OTs are regulated health professionals who focus on improving activities of daily living. An OT will be in our school on a regular basis to support teachers in our classrooms, gym, and playground. This support is available to all classrooms.

OTs may visit your child’s classroom to observe. The OT may suggest universal (general) strategies to the classroom teachers that can be used by all students. This consultation and coaching might look at how to improve activities such as self-care skills (like dressing for recess), cutting with scissors, pencil grasp, printing, cursive writing, typing, ideas to help improve focus in the classroom (such as movement breaks), and participation in gym and on the playground.  Your teacher may share ideas from the OT for you to try at home. The type of OT universal support offered may vary and will depend on the needs of the classroom.

Some students may benefit from more support from the OT. This may include working with the OT one-on-one or in a group at school. If your child may benefit from this individual support, your teacher will contact you to provide more information. You may also contact the teacher at any time if you feel your child might benefit from the OT working with them.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or the main office.

Sincerely,

Mr. Petrella

School Cash Online and Parking

Dear Families

We had a really great day at school today!

Numerous Schools are having issues with School Cash Online.  We are one of them.  Once it is up and running, we will let you know.

Municipal By-Law has reached out to the school due to the complaints of our neighbours on Hay Cres. Please see the attached letter:

RE: Parking safety around schools

Dear parent or guardian,
As the school year begins, we remind you that dropping off and picking up students in school areas can cause a lot of extra traffic congestion. Illegally stopped or parked cars are a safety risk as they make it hard for other drivers to see pedestrians, particularly children, crossing the street.

We need your help to ensure the children of our community can get to and from school safely. The City of Cambridge has partnered with the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRSP) to remind drivers about school zone safety and parking.

If you are driving your child to school, please remember:
•Do not stop in No Stopping areas
•Do not park in No Parking areas
•Do not obstruct sidewalks, crosswalks, driveways or fire routes

Officers who patrol school areas will enforce parking regulations, ticketing illegally stopped or parked vehicles.

Parking Penalties:
•Stopping in a No Stopping zone, even momentarily, could result in a $45 ticket.
•Parking in a No Parking zone, even if the vehicle is occupied, could result in a $25 ticket.
•Stopping or parking in a fire route could result in a $81 ticket.

To help reduce the number of cars on the road in your school area, students are encouraged to use the pre-arranged bus transportation or consider other active ways to get to school such as bike riding or walking. These alternatives not only promote physical activity but help reduce pollution and traffic congestion, and increase safety around the school. Please visit the Region of Waterloo’s website for information on the Active and Safe Route to School initiative.
Please help us keep our school areas safe.
For more information, contact Municipal By-law Compliance at 519-623-1340 ext. 7907 or bylaw@cambridge.ca.

Tomorrow! Tuesday September 5th, 2023

Back to school vector design. welcome back to school text with student supplies . | Download on FreepikWe sure are!  We look forward to seeing all of you tomorrow!

A few friendly reminders:

  1. Parking is available across the street.  In the before school hours (up until 9:10) and the after school hours (3:40 – 4:00) we ask to please use the parking lot across the street for drop offs or walking your children to school.  Please do not drop off in front of the school on the street as it promotes congestion and it is not safe.
  2. Parking is available from the hours of 9:30 – 3:00 in front of the school.  There are two handicap spots available.  We freed this area last spring to accommodate quick drop offs or pick ups during the school day, or if you are coming in for a brief meeting.
  3. Parents/Caregivers will be permitted on school property on the first day only for drop off and pick up only.  Starting Wednesday September 6th, no parent/caregiver will be permitted on school property for student safety.
  4. As noted previously, there is no crossing guard for the time being in front of our school anymore.  Thus please exercise extreme caution when crossing the street. For any concerns in regards to this matter, there was a telephone number posted on the sign 519 623-1340 or you may contact our city council member Scott Hamilton.
  5. Please remember to bring your indoor shoes and any other school supplies suggested by your classroom teacher! We look forward to see those new back packs and school supplies!

Take care and see you tomorrow!

Mr. Petrella

Crossing Guard Position

Dear Families

We were surprised to see the sign that indicated there would be no crossing guard in front of our school to assist with the crossing on Meyer’s Road.

We have since been informed that it is not that is not a permanent removal of the crossing guard, it is that the position hasn’t been filled. According to Shannon Noonan, the Manager of Transportation:

While we aim to have all locations covered, we continue to review the situation and will continue to do so throughout the school year.  As more individuals come forward and apply, we will have more locations filled.

If you are aware of anyone who might be interested in applying to be a crossing guard, people can apply online at https://career17.sapsf.com/sfcareer/jobreqcareer?jobId=2543&company=corporcamb or contact me (Shannon Noonan) directly for more information.

Thank you to a parent who brought this to our attention.
