School Letter on Opioid Crisis

As you may be aware, the issue of opioid ODs – and the and involvement fentanyl and bootleg fentanyl – has been a growing concern for some time. The Waterloo Regional Police Service and Region of Waterloo Public Health agree it has reached a “crisis” point. There have been 35 suspected opioid-related deaths in Waterloo Region so far this year – nearly the same number as in all of 2015 combined.

The attached letter has been co-signed by Chief Larkin and Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Liana Nolan, along with Loretta and WRDSB Director, John Bryant.

We also want to extend a special thanks and blessings to our Vice-Principal, Mr. Purificato. Your time at Holy Spirit will be treasured and we wish you continued success! The Our Lady of Fatima School Community is truly fortunate to have you as their new Principal to start next year!

Below are some words from Mr. Purificato …

This last September was a very exciting time for me. It felt like a bit of a homecoming, as I was part of the original staff when Holy Spirit first opened in 2001. I was welcomed back by old friends and received friendly greeting from new ones. The community was very friendly and I felt at home. So, it is with bittersweet feelings that I am announcing that I will be leaving Holy Spirit at the end of this school year. I have been reassigned as Principal of Our Lady of Fatima in Hespeler for September 2017. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire Holy Spirit community for a fantastic year and known that this school, its families, and staff will always hold a special place in my heart.

Mr. Purificato, Vice-Principal

At this time, we would like to introduce and welcome Mr. Eli-James Hunt who will be joining the Holy Spirit community as our new Vice-Principal for next year. We also want to welcome Mrs. Lemos to our Intermediate Division, as well as Mrs. Mansson who will be joining our FDK Team. Welcome! We are very fortunate to have these new staff members sharing their talents and energy as part of our awesome staff team!

We have more great events happening in these remaining 2 weeks so stay tuned to our Newswire and Twitter! As well our Greening and Naturalized Playspace construction will continue over the summer – again, thanks to our dedicated and energized School Council!

Time seems to move so quickly so we wish our students and families continued blessings and best wishes as we end our year and look forward to lots of great moments over the summer – take care!

Mr. J. Dinner, Principal

to model God’s unconditional love.

Lord Bless all men who are father
