The Week Ahead Feb 26 to Mar 2…

Our Lenten Journey Continues…

We are excited for all of the wonderful things happening at Holy Spirit School. Though we are into semester 2 of the journey, we experience the call during Lent to reflect on how we can reconnect with God in a greater and more meaningful way. One of the ways we encourage our students to live out their faith is by supporting each other and working together to make sure Holy Spirit school is a kind and welcoming place for everyone. As you pray, fast and give generously as a family during this Lenten season, the Holy Spirit community is journeying alongside you as well. So many exciting things ahead!

Congratulations to Our Grade 2 Students!

So many of our grade 2 students participated in the sacrament of first reconciliation. We appreciate the leadership of our grade 2 teachers and pastoral team for supporting all of us along our spiritual journey. Below is an image of the reconciliation that took place this past week. Notice how the gym has been transformed from an arena of competition to a calm space of contemplation. The pastoral team takes care of removing distractions so our students can experience the joy of this sacrament.

Great Spiritual Resource for Parents of Students in Grade 4

Our board has invested in a very high quality resource to support our students as they learn about their faith. In the grade 4 year, there are many online resources such as stories and videos which can be accessed from home. All parents are welcome to access this resource, but this particular link is related to the grade 4 curriculum. Please explore and use as a support as we partner in the faith development our Holy Spirit Students.

Water Update

Holy Spirit Families: We were not directly impacted by the water main break. Water pressure has remained fine all day and no one noticed a discoloration. As a precaution, students were supplied bottled water and had plenty to drink today.

Have a great night flames!

Water Main Break Affecting Galt…

Holy Spirit Families: We have been advised by Facility Services that a water main has ruptured on the Concession Street bridge. This may have an impact on the water pressure and output colour of the water at our school. We have been assured that the water is still safe to drink, although consumption is not recommended due to the discoloration and potential strange taste. Facility Services will be delivering water to drink if our school is among those affected. We will update you as we know more. Thank you for your patience as our local utility workers resolve the issue.

The Week Ahead February 12 to 16

Our Lenten Journey Begins This Week…

Holy Spirit Families: This week is FULL of fun and exciting events, but our hearts can also be FULL as we prepare to celebrate Easter through the journey of Lent. In today’s mass readings, the emphasis was about Jesus’ passion to see everyone healed and united as a community. At Holy Spirit, we know that is an impossible task without the support of our parent community. Thank you in advance to those who will be serving at our Pancake Breakfast. If you are not able to join us on Tuesday, please know you are welcome at our Ash Wednesday Liturgy on Wednesday. We would also like to extend congratulations to those families with children in grade 2 who are preparing for first reconciliation. This is a beautiful sacrament and we are proud of the efforts our students and their teachers have made to be ready for this next step in our faith journey. Aside from all the preparations, there has been some great learning happening too. See some of it below:

Pancake Breakfast AND Valentine’s Exchange on Shrove Tuesday

On February 13th (THIS TUESDAY) there will be a FREE breakfast provided to our students from our Parent Council. As always, please send reusable cutlery and a plate so we can be eco-friendly with our event and continue working towards maintaining our Gold Level Status as an Eco-School. ALSO, a reminder to please bring all Valentine’s on this day so we can keep Ash Wednesday focused upon our Lenten Journey.

What is Ash Wednesday & Lent all about anyway?

If you are curious about some of faith-filled traditions, this 3 minute video in the link below will help build a common understanding so we can partner together when your children ask questions at home about our faith. We look forward to journeying through Lent together. Hope to see you at our school liturgy on Wednesday at 1 PM! All are welcome.

Ash Wednesday and Lent in 3 minutes…

News from St. Ambrose Parish…

Ash Wednesday, February 14, 2018

Holy Masses will be held at 8:00 am and 7:15 pm.  Distribution of ashes will be held at both Masses.

Sacrament of First Reconciliation for grade 2’s will receive the Lord’s forgiving mercy. Please keep these students in your prayers.  Thursday, Feb 15 at 6:30 pm

Stations of the Cross will be prayed every Friday evening of Lent at 6:30 pm, beginning Friday, February 16, 2018

Telling the story of the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus was an important part of the early Christian’s experience. In the late fourth century, people began making pilgrimages to the Holy Land, where they would follow the path that Jesus took to Calvary. During the Middle Ages, when outbreaks of war made it impossible for people to travel to the Holy Land, people created a Via Dolorosa, or “Sorrowful Way,” in their towns and villages. They erected paintings or sculptures depicting the Passion of Christ along a processional route or inside a church. By the mid-18th century, the number of stations was fixed at 14 and the devotion known as the Stations of the Cross, also called the Way of the Cross, became widespread.

The Week Ahead February 5th to 9th

6 More Weeks of AWESOME!

Holy Spirit Families: Whether the rodents in Wiarton or Pennsylvania saw their shadow, we know the weather will not stop Holy Spirit school from having an AWESOME learning experience heading towards Spring. Currently our staff are working tirelessly to communicate learning in a formal way on report cards. Meanwhile our AMAZING parent council is gearing up for the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Breakfast. Our Parish is hosting a children’s mass. Just last week the grade 4s had an amazing lunch time intramural experience playing a new game ‘Triple Threat.’ This was made possible by our student leadership team! AND in the middle of all that is happening, our students are having a blast learning more each day in each of their classrooms. There is simply a lot going on at Holy Spirit school and we are grateful that everyone can be a part of it!

Pancake Breakfast on Shrove Tuesday

On February 13th there will be a FREE breakfast provided to our students from our Parent Council. Last week a form was sent home with youngest and only children to inform parents and extend an invitation to volunteer. A copy of the letter is on the link below. If you are interested in participating in this fun event, please send the form into the office so we know that you will be volunteering. As always, please send reusable cutlery and a plate so we can be eco-friendly with our event.
