Savings on Labels Until Midnight Tonight!

Holy Spirit Families:

We have some of the most organized families in the board and we are very proud of the efforts our community puts into being prepared for school. One of our parents made us aware that there is 30 Percent Off sale at Mabel’s labels. If that is something that interests you, please visit the link below. Also, our school will receive a portion of the proceeds. This is not a major school fundraiser, but if you happen to be buying labels, it would be nice if you could select our school to support before you make your purchase. All the best as you strive to stay organized!

The Week Ahead May 28 to June 1

Weather is Hot and our Flames are Cool!

Holy Spirit Families: We have had a short but wonderful week at Holy Spirit and look forward to another great week ahead.

It was a HOT week. Please send your children to school with a refillable water bottle, sunscreen and a hat. We want everyone to stay hydrated and continue to be healthy so we can learn and have fun. Also a HUGE Shout Out to Mr. Camara and Mrs. Silveira! Our custodians do so much at our school and this week they made sure that all of our Air Conditioning systems were in good working order. They make Holy Spirit a cool place to learn…LITERALLY!

Holy Spirit’s First Movie Night Led by Student Leadership was a Success!

The Student Leadership Team planned and organized a successful movie night that was attended by over 150 people. It was the first time we hosted an event like this at Holy Spirit and the students did a wonderful job. I was particularly impressed by how parents and student leaders worked together at the end to clean the gym up in 8 minutes! Wow! Thank you to everyone who supported the student leadership team and had a fun night out with your family. Also, a huge Thank You to Mrs. Ianni, Mrs. Hanley, Mrs. Lemos and Ms. Sartoretto for developing our student leaders and mentoring them throughout their journey this year at Holy Spirit. Our community is grateful for your efforts!

Kinbridge Community Sports Night HOSTED AT HOLY SPIRIT SCHOOL

Our parent council has partnered with Kinbridge to hold a WEEKLY Community Sports Night at Holy Spirit School! This is a huge win for our school and the community! There is a link to a flyer, but any 12 or older is welcome to attend. Children and Teens do NOT have to be a Holy Spirit School student, so if your child is friends with somebody who attends a different school, they can still participate together.

Our trial run will be for the month of June, but we hope to continue this community evening in the Fall starting in September. A HUGE Thank You to Ashley King, Amy Slack and Scott DeJong for working to make this opportunity a reality!

Starts This Thursday, May 31st from 6:30PM to 8:30PM. See Flyer for Details.

The Week Ahead May 21 to 25

Happy Victoria Day!

Holy Spirit Families: Our staff wish you all the best as you spend time this long weekend as a family together. This time of year brings so much joy in all of our homes, but it is also a time where we crave a rest from the busyness of life. Enjoy the rest of this weekend and read the details of the week ahead at your leisure.

Pentecost Sunday Reminds Us We Are A Gifted People…

At mass this morning, the letter from Paul to the Corinthians contained these words:

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of working, but it is the same God who inspires them all in every one.”

Holy Spirit School took this name because we were given the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. As educators at this school we have the privilege of witnessing the tremendous gifts your children have been blessed with. As they develop their diverse gifts and grow in their faith, we celebrate the strength of our community. We see the gift of teaching when our intermediates help our kindergarten classes learn to code. We see the gift of stewardship when our Eco Team takes steps to care for our world. We recognize the gift of hospitality when one student invites another to join them in a soccer game on the yard. These are just a few of the countless ways your children contribute to our school. Our board’s vision is that each school is the heart of the community — success for each, a place for all. This aligns perfectly with the message of Pentecost, that we are all gifted by the Holy Spirit in different ways and we are all valued members of the community. We are grateful for the positive partnership we have with our parents. We work together to inspire all of our students to develop their skills and talents to make a difference in our school and the greater community. Thank you parents for all that you do to set the example at home and encourage your children to do their best as we finish the year strong.

The Week Ahead May 14 to 18

Happy Mother’s Day…

The Mothers who are currently reading this are busy setting their children up for success the next week. Each of you means so much to your families and it is a privilege to be a part of a community with so many wonderful mothers. Please accept the warmest of wishes from our staff to have an AMAZING day. It is well-deserved!

A Week of Celebration! Catholic Education Week Was Simply Wonderful!…

Catholic Education Week was about Renewing the Promise of Catholic Education. We were very proud of how events unfolded at Holy Spirit because we really honoured our core beliefs. We believe deeply in the partnership between home, school and parish. Parents attended 2 liturgies, including a beautiful Crowning of Mary celebration. Parents were invited to 2 open houses in the school and on the field at our Track and Field Day. We celebrated family with a strong finish to the Roots of Empathy Program as we said goodbye to our Roots of Empathy babies. We honoured our treasured parent volunteers with breakfast and honoured God’s creation by ensuring our Eco-Certification team renewed their commitments to our community and planet. Our students used their God-given talents to build community through healthy competition at Track and Field and through the intricate Folk Dance routines showcased at the Preston Arena. It was a fantastic week and we were excited to see so many parents engaged in the celebration. Thanks for attending the events that you did!

The Weather is Definitely Warming Up…

Please remember to send sunscreen, hat and a refillable water bottle to school so your child can have lots of fun and stay safe!

Track and Field Tomorrow – Reminders

Parents,

Our Holy Spirit School Track and Field Meet is a GO for tomorrow (Friday, May 11th) – here are a couple of reminders re us having a great day … thanks for your support and a special thanks goes out to our Coaches, Staff, Parent Volunteers and Msgr. Doyle for hosting!!!

  1. Bibs – each student will have an athletes bib this year with a number and name – very cool!
  2. Hoody – tomorrow will be sunny but may start off very cold – dress the children in layers with a HOODY, track pants possibly and then as the day warms up, they will likely be good in a t-shirt and shorts …
  3. Pizza Day – tomorrow is a Pizza Day so all of our Gr. 4-8 classrooms will have their pizza delivered to Msgr. Doyle to be handed out when we take our lunch break from competition
  4. Back Pack – this is a great idea for each student to pack a back pack with: lunch, snacks, lots of water, sun hat, sun screen, blanket to sit on, deck of cards, book to read, spinners, etc. – will be a full day so being prepared is important
  5. Technology – we understand that our student love and thrive with technology – that said, there is a time and place for everything and a track meet is not one the best place for technology – the students will need to remain alert to hear events called and then run, jump, etc. – we would hate to see their expensive phone or ipad go missing while they are competing or them miss an event with ear buds in, or damaged if rain or wet weather pops up … so all technology should remain at home to ensure a great day – please send other activities that help pass the time (cards, book, spinner, sketch book, etc.)
  6. Walking to and from Msgr. Doyle – we will walk to and from on Myers Rd. on the opposite side of the street from the school
  7. Athlete Corral – Students/Athletes will be in a zone in the middle of the field called the “Athlete Corral” – this area will be marked by cones and helps us re making announcements to the students that can be heard so they know where to go as well as supervision throughout the day, for lunch, etc. as well as help with spectators not crossing the track during races.
  8. Bleachers – the Bleachers are for parents and visitors  – please join us and watch, cheer, support! You will be able to see your child compete and your presence is a wonderful addition to our day – if you need to speak to your child – let a staff member know and we will find your child in the corral and ensure they get to meet you on the Bleacher’s side of the track.
  9. Participation – Last but most important – this is not about winning but about participating and experiencing a track and field experience. This is an event that ALL students in the WCDSB from Gr. 4-8 participate – the goal is learning and participating. We will be positive and supportive of everyone’s efforts no matter what place they finish – a great life lesson!

Thanks!

Track and Field CANCELLED for today – We are a GO for tomorrow FRIDAY, May 11th

Holy Spirit Families:

We really want our Track & Field Meet at Monsignor Doyle for our grade 4 to 8 students to be the best day possible!

The weather forecast for today indicates rain and strong winds for the better part of the morning and may not clear up until the afternoon – we are fortunate that Msgr. Doyle has afforded us 2 days for circumstances just as this … so we will CANCEL our meet today and postpone to tomorrow.

Please NOTE: Our Holy Spirit Track and Field Meet will take place tomorrow – on Friday, May 11th.

Thanks for your understanding and support!

Inclement Weather and Track & Field: What Your Family Needs to Know…

Holy Spirit Families:

We are really excited to run our Track & Field meet at Monsignor Doyle tomorrow for our grade 4 to 8 students. However, we are not sure if the weather will cooperate. It is not looking great, but we will wait until tomorrow morning and make the decision to cancel based on the latest conditions on the ground and the updated radar forecast for the day. Our first rain date is Friday, May 11 and the conditions are not looking optimal that day either.

We will let everyone know if it is cancelled or running in the morning through the Newswire system and through our Twitter Feed https://twitter.com/HSFlames

When the event takes place, please send your child with layers of clothing, water bottles and sunscreen.

Again, thank you for your cooperation and patience as we make the best possible decision for a fun day without compromising our commitment to your child’s safety.

The Week Ahead May 7 to 11

Another Wonderful Week Ahead…

Our students enjoyed a beautiful week of weather, and were able to go outside almost every recess of the week! In between all the outdoor fun, we had 2 successful fire drills and the fire department visited our Kindergarten classes to support their learning in Fire Safety. Our Star Wars day on “May the Fourth Be With You” was a lot of fun and we have another exciting week ahead. Please join us for any of the events taking place this week as it is Catholic Education Week. One of the things that makes Catholic Education unique is the positive relationships we form with parents, school, parish and the community as we partner to live out our faith in tangible ways. Our school volunteers do so much for our community, and a special breakfast is planned for 8:30 AM on Tuesday. We hope you will be able to join us. We also have a liturgy Monday and Tuesday, so if your schedule allows for it we would love to celebrate with you. Our school Folk Dance team is performing at the Preston Arena on Tuesday evening and all are welcome to attend. All the details for these and other events are below.

Updated Safe Drop Off and Pick Up Protocols are still in Effect…

Our community transitioned smoothly towards the updated protocols and everybody seems to be in routine. We will always have staff on duty during drop-off and pick-up to facilitate this process. Thank you parents for the way we worked together to overcome any implementation challenges. As always, if you have a friend or relative picking up for the first time please remind them of the updated process and ask them to connect with one of our staff members in a safety vest if they have any questions.  Thanks for your continued support and cooperation during our arrival and departure windows.
