The Week Ahead: June 25 to June 29

The Home Stretch is Upon Us…

Holy Spirit Families: It is with mixed emotions we enter this leg of the journey together. We share a sense of pride and accomplishment in all of the many things we have done together as a community. We hung our leader on a wall with tape, maintained our GOLD Eco-School status, dominated in sports like soccer, badminton and track, and participated in fun events like a Fitness Frenzy. We deepened our faith as we celebrated the crowning of Mary and journeyed with the pilgrimage cross. We have so much to be grateful for. Our entire staff would like to express our deep appreciation for all of the support you have provided as you partnered with us. Let’s savour the sweetness of this last leg of the journey together, knowing how AWESOME this year has been and how AWESOME this last week will be!

Cake-For-A-Change Mission Day was a HUGE Success!

Thank you to all of the parents and staff who donated cakes or cash towards this AWESOME event. We had over 70 cakes and we raised over $3000 to support families in need. We will ensure we meet some needs that exist for families within our own community, and then the remainder of the funds will support neighbouring schools in need. This could not have been possible without the incredible leadership of Ms. MacDonald and her Cake Walk Team consisting of Ms. Winslow, Mrs. Borges, Ms. Da Costa, Mrs. Cassidy, Mrs. Caprio, and Mr. Camara. It was a lot of fun!

Intermediate Co-Ed Soccer Team a.k.a. the CHAMPIONS of the Cambridge Division!

The MIGHTY Holy Spirit dominated against all the larger schools in the Cambridge area. Under the leadership of Mrs. Cassidy, the team went undefeated. Well done Flames!

School Mass At St. Ambrose Tomorrow: All Are Welcome!

Holy Spirit Families: We wanted to remind you that our school mass is taking place tomorrow at St. Ambrose Parish. We will be walking as a community to church shortly after the bell. Proper walking shoes would be the safest choice and all flip flops should remain at home for the day. The time of the mass will be around 10:15 AM (depending on travel time). This is slightly earlier than the previously published time on our Week Ahead Newsletter.

Also, should we experience inclement weather, we will still hold a mass but Father Irek will travel to the school instead.

Have a great evening, and see you tomorrow if you are able to join us!

The Week Ahead: June 18 to June 22

Happy Father’s Day…

Holy Spirit Families: We hope you receive this while enjoying festivities celebrating the fathers in your life. We value the partnerships that we have with the families in our community, and we also recognize that each family is unique. However you decide to spend today, please know that your presence in your children’s lives makes a world of difference. Whether it is reading a report card comment quoting a Kindergarten student or hearing students talk about their families on the yard, the impact you have in your children’s world is huge. They are so excited to talk about how much they love their moms and dads! Thank you for all you do to support them in their learning journey at Holy Spirit School.

 An INCREDIBLE Reward Day!

Thank you to all of the parents who volunteered to chaperone our Spirit Reward to the World Premiere of The Incredibles 2. So many students were happy to attend and it was a meaningful reward for all of their acts of kindness and community building they have done through the year. A special thank you to parent council for subsidizing the cost of the buses.

ECO TEAM EARNS HOLY SPIRIT SCHOOL A GOLD CERTIFICATION…

The MIGHTY Holy Spirit was one of only a handful of schools who earned GOLD Certification as an Eco-School. From leading the community through Earth Hour to supporting all classes wash their plates after a pancake breakfast to planting seedlings that gave each class an opportunity to learn and participate in greening our campus…the ECO TEAM DOES IT ALL! We are particularly proud of the vision that our teacher leaders promote because it emphasizes community awareness and education, rather than transforming our students into an environmental police force. Eco-Team continues to make us proud and it would not be possible without the tireless efforts of Mrs. Livingston, Ms. Tremblay and Mrs. Brown.

Cake-For-A-Change Mission Day…

After consultation with staff about our annual mission day, we are really excited to try a new format for the day. This Friday, June 22nd, we are going to hold a Cake Walk and we are inviting any staff and parents that want to join in to bake or purchase a cake that will be raffled off to benefit families in need within our Holy Spirit Community. Additional information and Ticket order forms went home last week, but parents will have the option of using Cash Online to purchase raffle tickets. This will be SWEET day for our community!

If you did not receive the form from your son or daughter, it can be found in the link below.

Parents: Will you Adopt A Tree At Holy Spirit?

Holy Spirit Families: Our Greening team from Parent Council has been working hard partnering with community organizations as we continue the process of building our natural playground. We will be having several trees funded through grants from the City of Cambridge and over the summer we will have over 20 trees on property in need of watering! We are hoping we can pull together as a community and have individual or teams of families commit to watering the trees for a week at a time over the summer. If this is a way you feel your family can contribute to our school, we need to hear from you.

Please print off the attachment below and return it to the office by Friday, June 15th.  Thanks again for all you do to make Holy Spirit School a wonderful place for our students to learn and grow.

The Week Ahead June 11 to June 15

An Incredible Week Ahead…

Holy Spirit Families: We have been working towards filling our Spirit Meter with Pom Poms by being kind and filling each other’s buckets. Well…the big reward is here! This week on Friday (June 15th) we will be going to movies as a school to see the Incredibles 2! We are funding our buses with proceeds from our food days and support from our parent council. Thank you!

We have well over half the school with tickets already purchased through cash-online. Each ticket is $7 and for every student ticket purchased, a parent ticket can be purchased as well. If you have not purchased your child’s ticket through cash online, please do so ASAP. As stated, all students will travel by bus and we have busing available for chaperones. However, we know many parents will want to meet us directly at Landmark Cinemas. Should you choose to drive yourself there, please let the office and your classroom teacher know that you will meet us at the theatre for 10 AM.

The concession will not be open, so please have your child eat a good breakfast in the morning so they will be set to go when we load the buses shortly after the bell rings and we take attendance. So many students have been looking forward to this reward day, and we hope to see every student in our community be a part of the celebration.

Badminton Champions…

Our Badminton team crushed the competition at their recent tournament at Monsignor Doyle. All of those after school clinics and lunch time practices really paid off. Number 1 school in the league! Well done FLAMES! Special thanks to Mrs. Hersh and Mr. Jacobi for leading the team to victory!

The following students were AWESOME team members: Adam C., Daniela C., Chris C., E.J. D., Amanda D., Aryana F., Damien F., Agata G., Ephram G., Anton G., Ruth J., Zachary M., Brayden M., Grace N., Sammy P., Mateo R. Victoria R., Martina S., and Aiden W.

The Week Ahead: June 4 to June 8

The Theme of the Week Is Running!

Holy Spirit Families: We have a running club, a cross country meet, a track and field meet and even our elected officials are running for office this week with our school serving as a polling station! But the staff and students of THE MIGHTY HOLY SPIRIT are ready for the challenge. Please see the dates below for details. A huge thank you to Mrs. Cassidy and Mrs. Lemos for taking our students to Cross Country and we would also extend gratitude to Mr. Luciani, Mr. Mastroianni and Mrs. Cassidy again for volunteering to take our students to Track and Field.

Menchies Supply Challenges…

This week Menchies will be served on Wednesday, as it has the last few weeks. This is a result of a problem within Menchies’ supply chain. They are unable to obtain enough cups to fulfill their Monday orders. Students will receive their frozen treats when they arrive on Wednesday. Thank you for your flexibility and patience as we work with the vendor to rectify these unfortunate delays.

Election on Thursday

As our community participates in a free and fair election, Holy Spirit will serve as a polling station. We cherish our democracy and encourage everyone to take time to speak to your children about the importance of voting, and then modeling our democratic values by exercising your right to cast a ballot. The cost of our electoral process is some inconvenience on election day this Thursday. Please plan to park further away to pick your child up and drop your child off. There will be traffic challenges around our building at those key times through the day and all families should plan accordingly.

If you are unsure how to vote, please visit the link below.

A Message From Our Principal Mr. Dinner

Dear Parent/Guardians,

Just a short time ago, our WCDSB announced a variety of school administrator changes.  Effective September 2018, I will be assuming administrative duties as Principal Our Lady of Grace Elementary School in Kitchener. The incoming Principal for Holy Spirit Catholic School in September will be Mr. Paul Mendonca who is the present administrator of St. Matthew Catholic School in Waterloo. Mr. Mendonca is an exceptional person and leader and is excited to serve our school community. As well, we are truly fortunate to have our Vice-Principal, Mr. Hunt, remaining on our Leadership Team for the 2018-19 school year.

Even though we still have the month of June and many wonderful events in store for our students and community before the end of the school year, I wish to thank you for your kindness and support during our time together. Over the few years, I have enjoyed developing relationships with our “AWESOME” students, staff and parents. United in faith and by rolling up our sleeves to work hard together for the benefit of our students, the “Mighty Holy Spirit School” continues to be celebrated as rare and special place. Hence, it is with mixed feelings that I begin this new challenge, in that while I am excited to help in a new community, I am sad to be leaving this wonderful community.  Please know that I am blessed to take with me many memorable moments from these past school years and will look back on them fondly. Thank you for your support and continued blessings to you ALL!

Sincerely,

Mr. Dinner,

Principal

Kinbridge Community Sports Night Kick-Off was a Success!

The evening had over 15 youth participating in a sports night. We have 3 more planned during the Thursdays that follow the election. Please send any interested Youth 12 and older. Children and Teens do NOT have to be a Holy Spirit School student, so if your child is friends with somebody who attends a different school, they can still participate together.

Our trial run will continue to run for the month of June, but we hope to continue this community evening in the Fall starting in September. A HUGE Thank You to Ashley King, Amy Slack and Scott DeJong for working to make this opportunity a reality!

Starts This Thursday, May 31st from 6:30PM to 8:30PM. See Flyer for Details.
