Staffing Update: Holy Spirit School

EXCITING NEWS AT HOLY SPIRIT SCHOOL!

Hello Holy Spirit families!  It is with mixed emotions that I write to inform you of a couple of staffing changes in the administration at Holy Spirit School. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Hunt on his recent appointment as the principal of St. Peter CES in Cambridge. The Holy Spirit community will miss Mr. Hunt and all the outstanding qualities that he brought to our school community.  Our loss at Holy Spirit is certainly St. Peter’s gain. I wish Mr. Hunt God’s blessings as he begins his new journey.

I am very excited to announce that Mr. Mastroianni will be assuming the vice principal duties here at Holy Spirit. His familiarity with our community and his dedication to the profession will mean wonderful things for the Holy Spirit community.

Please join me in congratulating both Mr. Hunt and Mr. Mastroianni as they begin their new journeys.

Sincerely,

Mr. Mendonca

Amazing Speaker Was At Holy Spirit School…

We were delighted to have Sara Westbrook speak on the topic of Habits of Resilient Families. She is a motivational speaker, author & singer who specializes in Resilience, Confidence and Emotional and Mental Well-Being. She spoke to students during the day, and then did a special Parents Only Presentation geared towards strategies parents can use with children to build resilience and support their well-being. It was a powerful presentation which really supported our school in its journey to build resilience in our students. Thank you to Mr. Mendonca for organizing this event.

Mabels Labels Sale Ends Monday at Midnight!

We have some of the most organized families in the board and we are very proud of the efforts our community puts into being prepared for school. One of our parents made us aware that there is 40% Percent Off sale at Mabel’s labels. If that is something that interests you, please visit the link below. Also, our school will receive a portion of the proceeds. This is not a major school fundraiser, but if you happen to be buying labels, it would be nice if you could select our school to support before you make your purchase. All the best as you strive to stay organized!

Power Restored At Holy Spirit School

Holy Spirit Families:

A power interruption occurred earlier this morning. The power has been restored, but it temporarily affected some of our systems. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused if you were unable to reach the school during this brief interruption. At this time we do not anticipate any further interruptions to our normal operations.

Thank you for your understanding.

Painting at Holy Spirit and Pink Shirt Day on Friday!

Good Morning Holy Spirit Families!

Just a brief announcement to let everyone know that we will have painters around our building for the next 5 weeks repainting and touching up the common areas (hallways, staffroom etc.). The paint is safe to use during the school day and will not be used in classrooms. The technical safety information about the type of paint that will be used is in the links below.

ALSO, as a way to celebrate a successful Bullying Awareness Week and inspire us to be kind through the rest of our school year, we are asking everyone to send their children to school in a pink shirt. This is a tradition that has become popular across the globe. It started as an act of kindness and inclusion by Canadian students to support a peer who was being picked on for wearing a pink shirt. It has transformed into a symbolic reminder that ALL of our kids are accepted and belong. We hope everyone will be able to participate!

Great Learning Happening All Around Us!

At Holy Spirit we love to share with you about all the exciting things the we accomplish as a school community. But in the midst of the dances, assemblies and wonderful celebrations, we always keep learning at the forefront. Thank you to Mrs. Lemos, Mrs. Hanley and Mrs. Da Costa for guiding our Student Leadership Team to support the learning that happened in our Remembrance Day Liturgy. Whether it is a junior science class, a kindergarten class building letters or a group of staff learning about effective Math instruction on a PD Day…learning is always a priority at Holy Spirit school.

AWESOME Results for Hats Off to United Way, Legion Poppy Fundraisers and Candies For the Poor

Our Fundraiser that helps our Veterans was a huge success raising $694 for the Legion. Our United Way campaign raised over $650 from staff and students. Thank you to Mrs. Thompson for your work with the Legion and Mrs. Clegg for your efforts on the United Way Campaign. Plus, our school had a lot of fun hats in the school that day!

Remembrance Day Liturgy Tomorrow at 10:45 AM

We hope you are able to join us in the gym tomorrow. Our Student Leadership Club has been working diligently preparing to lead our school in this important Liturgy. Also, check out this great artwork below by our grade 5 and 6 students that helped us reflect this past week.

Progress Reports and Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences are Complete.

We are so grateful that so many people came out to connect with our teachers and Early Childhood Educators about their child’s progress. Below is a picture of a father and daughter working on a Math Challenge on a VNPS (Vertical Non-Permanent Space) while they wait for their conference with the teacher. There is a lot of research that supports children spending some time engaged in challenging Math problems on a VNPS. They learn to collaborate and become more flexible in their approach to solving problems.

We are also grateful to our Bell Ringers for keeping us on track for the evening! They did a great job in Mrs. Lirusso’s seat…but I think they were happy to give it back the next day :).

If you did not have a chance to connect with your child’s teacher, please reach out and schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience. We value our parent partners and the dialogue about learning between educators and parents is an important contributing factor to your child’s success. Never hesitate to reach out.

Halloween FUNdraiser totals are in!

Holy Spirit Families: You have a lot to be excited about. After all the expenses like paying for the DJ and glowsticks etc., our school raised $11 923.76. WOW! Way to Go Holy Spirit School. This will make a huge difference toward the purchase of additional resources that will benefit the educational experience of all of our learners. AWESOME!

Halloween FUNdraiser was a HUGE SUCCESS!

We are still tallying the final pledges and expenses, but the event was a huge success. We will report the final amount raised when all the tabulations are complete. The math we can share with you is…

Parent Volunteers PLUS Generosity From Parent Community EQUALS A HUGE DIFFERENCE to the learning experience of our children.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! Specifically, the efforts of Kim Piche, Linda Amador, Bernadette Dietrich, Celeste Murphy, Alysha Davy, Angela Klepp, Christina Valentini, Kathleen Lirusso, Trish Gerth and Ashley King made this event happen. Everything from Pumpkins for Carving, Gym Decorating, Glow Stick Sales, DJ Booking, Money Counting, Ticket Distributing, Photo Copying, Envelope Stuffing, Prize Table Organizing and so much more would not have happened without this small but mighty group of passionate parents. They would never do this for the thank you, but if you see them during drop off or pick up, please extend your gratitude for their selfless service.

A HUGE SHOUT OUT TO Maddy at TRIPLE ARTS ACADEMY in Cambridge. She only charged us for the cost of her gas and her DJ services were AMAZING. Triple Arts Academy also donated a week of free lessons for EVERY Student in the school! (The coupon went home last week) She also donated 4 weeks of Dance AND Karate for our top Fundraiser. This company has been very supportive of Holy Spirit School and we are very grateful for their outstanding support! If you would like to thank them with your patronage, you can get more information at

Parish Update From St. Ambrose

Youth Ministry Volunteers needed. Youth Ministry also sometimes referred to as a youth group, is an age-specific religious ministry. The Catholic church views the youth as an important and integral part of the Church as a whole. Youth ministry aims to involve and engage with young people, making them feel welcome within the Church community. Unfortunately, this ministry is lacking in our parish and Father Irek would like to encourage some adults to come forward to take the lead in initiating a youth group. If you are interested or have questions please contact Father Irek at the parish office.

Parents in Touch Prayer Group  St. Ambrose Parish invites you to the Parents in Touch Prayer Group.  Please join them every Tuesday morning at 9:20am for the Rosary, at the side altar of Our Blessed Mother.  Come pray for parents, children, family, friends, teachers and one another.
