Meet the Teacher Food Truck Evening – Tuesday, September 17, 2019

We will be having Food Trucks instead of a BBQ this year. Please join us for an exciting night, enjoy some dinner from one of the delicious food trucks (all nut free) and then have a chance to introduce yourself to your child’s teacher. Dinner will be available from 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM with teacher visits happening between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Father Mikulski would also like to invite all Grade 2 families to meet with him to discuss First Holy Communion between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM. We look forward to seeing you Tuesday, September 17, 2019!

Volunteer Form

The Mighty Holy Spirit is a busy place and we are always looking for Volunteers to help out with various events and activities. Please complete the Holy Spirit Volunteer Form below:

Strong Start

At Holy Spirit Catholic School we are fortunate to have the support from our community to offer a unique program called Letters, Sounds and Words.  Volunteers from our community help children aged five to seven learn the names of letters, the sound each letter represents and a list of commonly used words in print. This program coordinates well with the Ontario Curriculum expectations and has proven results.  It has been designed specifically for volunteers, who work with one child at a time and enjoy watching the child make great gains in only 10 weeks!

This program is offered to us by the Strong Start Charitable Organization, which is funded through donations from individuals, businesses, Foundations and community groups. You can read more about Strong Start on its website: www.strongstart.ca.  This program would not be possible without the generous gift of time from our volunteers, which Holy Spirit School is currently in need of.

If you or someone you know (friend/family member) is interested in this meaningful and rewarding volunteer opportunity, please contact the school at 519-621-8973.

***A minimum time commitment of 30 minutes per week for 10 weeks is required.  Volunteers must attend two Strong Start training sessions offered this fall.  The training sessions are offered locally.

Safety Drills

As safety is always a top priority for Holy Spirit school the students will be participating in the following Safety Drills throughout the year; Fire Drills, Lock Down Drills, Tornado Drills, Hold and Secure Drills.

Our School Resource Officer Geoff Fearon will be joining us for some them.

School Yard Safety – Before and After School

Parents/adults are not permitted to enter the blacktop and school property during the school day. Just as we do at recesses during the day, we supervise and ensure the safety of students when on school property. These same measures – no adults and/or strangers on school property – will be in place for the full school day – between 8:40-3:55 PM. Parents of Kindergarten students can continue their drop-off and pick-up procedures that are currently in place.

The Safe Schools Act dictates that Parents and Visitors sign in at the office before gaining access to school property or spaces occupied by our students – we need to ensure we exercise the same safety measures as we start and end our day. Accordingly, we consistently have parents, visitors or strangers (construction staff, board staff, etc.) sign in at the office before gaining access to the school yard, hallways and/or classrooms at any point in the day.

Please see the attached document for a reminder of the Drop-off and Pick-up Zones:

Thank you for helping keep safety at the forefront of all we do at the Mighty Holy Spirit!

Traffic Update

The traffic congestion at the front of the school has improved tenfold. Thank you for your support and understanding as we have been making Holy Spirit as safe as possible.

Absent Student

If your child going to be absent from school please remember to call in and let us know they will be away. Please ensure you also contact the school for students who do not travel on the bus and choose to stay home on days the buses are cancelled.  Thank you.

Community Safety: By-law Enforcement

Hello everyone. We are sending the Holy Spirit Community a direct link to the City of Cambridge By-Law Enforcement page to assist our community with access to information on when and how to report concerns. The page is very user friendly and will help in our continued effort to keep our school and neighborhood safe. The site explains how you can report by-law issues, when to notify police, and lists common by law complaints.  Thank for your continued support.
