Holy Spirit Families,
We hope everyone has been having a wonderful summer with family and friends. Many of our staff have returned to make preparations to their classrooms because we are all looking forward to welcoming everyone back. We are grateful to Mr. Camara, Mrs. Silveira and Mrs. Jacome, as they are the best custodians we could ask for. The school is sparkling from top to bottom. We also have a fantastic School Council. They have been working behind the scenes getting the next phase of the greening project ready. In the meantime, they have ensured our front gardens have been well taken care of. Thank you parents! We hope you are as excited a we are for the first day of school!
A Message from our new Principal Mr. Mendonca
Hello Mighty Holy Spirit Flames! I would like to take this opportunity to officially introduce myself to this wonderful school community. Let me begin by expressing how honored and blessed I feel to have been appointed the principal of Holy Spirit CES! I have been an admisitrator with the WCDSB for 7 years. I spent two years as a vice principal at St. Nicholas CES in Waterloo and the past five years as the principal of St. Matthew CES in Waterloo. I am a proud father of three beautiful kids and married to a passionate educator. So, its safe to say that there is a lot of education talk around the dinner table! I am passionate about Catholic education and I continually focus on reminding myself and others about how fortunate we are to live, learn and teach in a Catholic school.
It is with much enthusiasm that I welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year. A warm welcome is extended to all who are new to our school community. A special greeting is also extended to our Junior Kindergarten children who are starting school for the first time. Together with staff, our parish team, and the parent community, we will strive to make this year one of excellence for our students in the areas of academic, spiritual and emotional growth. From what I have seen and heard, through many conversations in the past few months, the Holy Spirit staff is a uniquely gifted one that effectively collaborates to ensure that Christ is present for all children and the love of learning is modelled & encouraged every day. I invite our parent community to participate in our students’ education through a visible presence through school council, volunteering and other school activities. It is important to remember that a classroom teacher is only one part of the learning process; parents are extremely important in determining how well a child will develop and how much a child will learn during the school year. Your involvement in your child’s education is crucial.
I look forward to working together to ensure an excellent school year for our students filled with academic excellence and spiritual growth. Holy Spirit has all the essentials in place to support and nurture all students in becoming: discerning believers, effective communicators, reflective and creative thinkers, lifelong learners, effective collaborators, caring and responsible citizens.
May God Bless You,
Updated First Day Day Drop Off Procedures…
We are really excited to see everyone again on the first day. We also listened to the feedback provided last year with the challenges around getting all students and families into the gym. To make the first day experience better for students and families, we are implementing a new first day procedure. Please see the attached letter describing how the morning of the first day of school will unfold for the better.
Volunteer Partners Needed!
Holy Spirit School is a thriving community because of our incredible parent volunteers. We wanted to ensure everyone was invited early to participate in the life of the school and be prepared with a volunteer police check. Please see the attached letter below describing the simple process to get things rolling. We look forward to partnering with old friends and families new to the Holy Spirit community. All are welcome to participate!
