Welcome Back Flames! The Week Ahead January 8 – 12, 2018

Welcome Back Flames! Happy New Year!

The New Year brings so many possibilities and endless opportunities to learn and grow as a community. As we finish Christmas with the Feast of the Epiphany, we are reminded that the hope of Advent was not meant to be hidden, but to be shared with everyone. As we remember the Magi who visited Jesus, we remember that Jesus came to love all of us, no matter what land we come from. In that spirit, we begin 2018 as a community of Faith that wants each student to know and feel their value and acceptance within our community. We look forward to many more opportunities to practice this as a learning community together in the coming months. Thank you for contributing to our rich and diverse community at Holy Spirit school.

Joy Day was an Incredible Community Event!

We are very proud of our intermediate students who participated in showcasing their learning in the area of ballroom dancing. We are also very grateful to the friends and family who attended to support our students as they took the stage. A special thank you to Mrs. Hersh, Mrs. Ianni, Mrs. Lemos, Mrs. Hanley and Ms. Sartoretto for the coaching and mentoring of our intermediate dancers.

Dressing For the Weather

Reminder that all students must wear proper footwear in the school at all times should have indoor and outdoor foot wear.  Students should bring extra clothes especially socks in the colder or wet days.

All outdoor wear such as gloves/mitts, hats, jackets, snow pants and outdoor foot wear should all be labeled.

Cold Weather & Outdoor Recess

The colder weather has arrived. The safety of students will always be the first consideration to go out or stay indoors for recess. When the wind chill is -20 or lower, we will keep students inside for recess. When the wind chill is -15 to -19, lunch recess outside will be shortened. We refer to the Environment Canada website when making the decision regarding outdoor play. Lots of Canadian fun for the children outside awaits – please ensure proper dress for the weather.

Bus Cancellations

Under certain conditions such as inclement weather, it may be necessary to close the school, send students home early and/or cancel school board bus and taxi transportation services. If only transportation is CANCELLED, SCHOOLS will remain OPEN.

 Please NOTE the following:

Parents will need to make other transportation arrangements to get their children both to and from school that day. We do NOT make attendance calls to our bus students on transportation cancellation days as we understand them to be staying home.

Parents must call the school for any child who is NOT a BUS student but who is staying home because of the road conditions.  This is part of our board safe arrival program and ensures we have confirmed the whereabouts of all students.

For up-to-date information on school bus delays, cancellations, and school closures, please visit or phone (519) 650-4934.

Cancellation information is available on most local radio stations and at our board website:
